Screening and Training Policy

Ten Steps Manos Home Care Takes to Find the Right People

  • 1.
    Oriented
After hearing about Manos Home Care through newspaper ads and friends, potential applicants must call in for an appointment to attend an orientation. If the applicant attends the orientation on time, they can make an appointment for an interview.
  • 2.
    Interviewed
Applicants must arrive on time, fill out an application, and be interviewed.
  • 3.
    Invited to Training
Those applicants having satisfactory interviews may be invited to a training, based on their availability and skills.
  • 4.
    Trained
Applicants are given a two-day training covering
    • The needs of the elderly and sick
    • Body mechanics
    • Company policy
    • Emergency procedures
    • House cleaning
  • 5.
    Evaluated
    Applicants are evaluated for
    • Competence: can they do the work?
    • Reliability: can they be trusted?
    • Maturity: are they patient and able to listen?
  • 6.
    Fingerprinted
Applicants who pass the course must then be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are sent to the Department of Justice and returned with a list of any federal crimes for which they were arrested and/or convicted.
  • 7.
    DMV Report Obtained
We obtain their driving records from the department of motor vehicles.

    References Checked
We check their work references by phone to get specific feedback on an applicant's past performance.
  • 9.
    TB Test Required
We require aides to take a tuberculosis test within 30 days of employment.
  • 10.
    CPR Certificate Required
Applicants must take a course in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) at our training site if they do not have a current CPR card.
